Clarification of Medication Regimens

Understand more about the medications you are taking so you can get on the right schedule.Medication Regimens

More often than not, patients are prescribed medications but they aren’t told much about them or why they are important. Sadly, some patients aren’t even told how to take the medication and have to resort to reading the instructions at home, which can be daunting, confusing and more than a little stressful. Our Southfield, MI, doctor Dr. Antoine Geffrard wants to take the stress out of taking medication, particularly for patients who have to take a lot of different medications or have to take them for the rest of their lives.

What should I expect when I come in for a consultation?

Each consultation is 45 minutes long, which gives us ample time to go through the list of medications you are currently taking, as well as your detailed medical history. Make sure to include everything in your medical history, from past injuries and surgeries to hospitalizations and chronic health problems. You will also provide us with a list of all the medications you are taking, both prescription and over-the-counter, as well as herbal supplements and vitamins.

While we won’t prescribe medications during your visit, what we can do during your consultation is walk through your medication schedule with you to address concerns, answer questions and then provide further recommendations and advice, when necessary. This is particularly helpful for patients who may not be seeing the results they want with their current medications and want to weigh other options or receive a second opinion.

Who should consider a consultation?

If you are confused about the medications you are taking, worried about interactions with supplements, herbs and other over-the-counter medications, or if you are worried about certain side effects then this is the perfect time to visit our Southfield, MI, physician for a consultation. After all, there are a variety of potentially serious and life-threatening interactions that can occur if you are taking a variety of medications, and knowing this can protect your health in the long run.
